Cullera

Now a busy holiday resort (population 20,000), the Mediterranean town of Cullera is right in the middle of the Valencian coast, around 40km south of Valencia. Set at the mouth of the Ribera del Júcar, the town is surrounded by good beaches and orange trees, and has a popular yacht harbour.

Cullera sits at the foot of a hill on which stands what is left of a 12th century castle, and although busy in the summer months, care has been taken to preserve its old historic centre while embracing modern facilities and development. Traditionally Cullera depended on the cultivation of rice and oranges, as well as fishing, but is now increasingly dependent on tourism.
