With 8,000 kilometres of coastline, beautiful beaches, turquoise waters and world class resorts it is no surprise that five Spanish beaches feature in TripAdvisor’s Travellers’ choice 2012 list. Puerto Alcudia, Benidorm, Playa del Inglés, Corralejo and Puerto del Carmen are all featured in the top ten European beach resorts.

Puerto Alcudia

This beach is located northeast of Mallorca and was voted to be the third best beach in Europe. Eight kilometres of luscious white sand and crystal blue water make it one of the longest and most beautiful beaches in Mallorca. It regularly attains blue flag status, a testament to its quality. The port itself has a range of lovely restaurants, cafés, bars, nightclubs and a water park, and is also perfect for a wide variety of sports, including windsurfing, water skiing sailing and golf.

Benidorm

Benidorm, which came in fifth, is one of the most important and biggest resorts in Europe, and it is located on the Costa Blanca, between Alicante and Altea. Benidorm is sometimes referred to as the ‘Manhattan of Spain’ due Benidorm at nightto its unique skyline. This city is surrounded by stunning scenery and has two splendid beaches, Levante and the Poniente. These beaches offer the best of both worlds, with both activities and tranquillity. Both have blue flag status and have golden sands with clear blue sea stretching over six kilometres from Levante beach to Poniente. A wealth of water sports is available, together with numerous shops, restaurants and cafes.

Levante Beach, also known as ‘Sunrise Beach’, caters for people looking for fun activities, such as water sports and beach games. Poniente Beach, on the other hand, is situated beyond the old town and has a more sedate ambience. It is popular with local residents and families, and is often less crowded but still has great facilities where bathers can enjoy eating, swimming and relaxing.
