Jávea’s La Granadella beach voted the best in Spain

A recent poll conducted by Spanish TV channel, Antena 3, has revealed that Spain’s favourite beach is La Granadella, which will come as no surprise to locals who have long enjoyed its secluded location and microclimate with higher temperatures than in the surrounding areas.

Conducted largely via the popular medium of Facebook, La Granadella gained 40,361 votes, ahead of La Coruña’s Carnota beach with 37,166 and Cádiz’s Tarifa-Boloña beach with 20,908.

Situated between Jávea and Moraira, La Granadella enjoys Blue Flag status so is completely safe for bathing. An added attraction is the lovely road to the beach, and to make the most of the route visitors should start from the Cabo de la Nao headland and then take the road through the gorge and the pine forest down to La Granadella.

Keen snorkelers will most enjoy the possibilities of this popular destination, since the posidonia sea grass beds (located approximately 20 metres offshore) provide the ideal environment for spotting some of the beautiful and fascinating creatures that have made the sea grass their home. Arenal beach in Jávea will doubtless retain its popularity with families for its safe, shallow waters, but for serious swimmers and those who are more interested in what lies beneath the waves, La Granadella is perfect.

The water off the beach is typically calm and an inviting sapphire blue, while the little bay’s horseshoe shape and the surrounding Aleppo pine trees afford it an ambience that is hard to match. In addition, La Granadella features lifeguard cover, sun loungers, sunshades, toilet facilities and water sport rentals, not to mention three restaurants on the road that backs on to the beach, so for those who really like to spend the day, this is understandably the perfect location.

Rimontgó has a selection of properties for sale in La Granadalla area but this traditional Spanish style villa, located a mere three-minute walk from the beautiful cove of La Granadella – voted 2012’s best beach in Spain, Jávea, Alicante – is exceptional.
