The Valencian charm is well-known by all its residents, and the rumour has reached the United Kingdom. The English newspaper, The Guardian, has chosen the city as a unique Spanish location in its “list of the best 40  destinations to visit in 2018”. The “heart of art” is highlighted and they encourage people to go and visit the City of Arts and Sciences on its 20th anniversary, the Marina, the arts hub Bombas Gens, the Institut Valencià d’Art Modern or the Fallas, as in March it will celebrate its second year after being declared as Intangible Cultural Heritage by Unesco.

According to municipal sources, the inclusion in the ranking of the British newspaper, with 152 million of users worldwide, is the result of the effort in promoting the city that is developed from Turismo Valencia. We should also mention the presentations carried out in Birmingham, Glasgow and Edinburgh, as well as the presence of the World Travel Market. The flight connections with Belfast and Bristol also contribute to the development of the English market, that has grown by 17,5% this year regarding overnight stays.

In this way, Valencia has not just become a British holiday destination, but also an attractive place to reside and carry out a real estate investment. There are many people interested in acquiring a first or second property in the capital and its surroundings, thanks to the good climate and the quality of life. The British also feel a special predilection for the area of Alicante, especially towns with beaches, up to the point of converting the province into the main communityof the United Kingdom within Spain.

Although it is true that the Brexit from the European Union, referendum passed in 2016, has affected to the number of British residents in full autonomy, the figures are still very high. Paying attention to the data from the National Institute of Statistics (Office for National Statistics), in January of 2017, the colony of the United Kingdom in the Valencian community achieved 73.304 people. Just in the town of Jávea there are close to 5.000 inhabitants of British origin.
