Best areas to buy a property in Valencia (II)

Continuing our tour around the best areas of Valencia for investing in real estate, our next stop is the street connecting the Pla del Remei district, which is home to the Ensanche neighbourhood, one of the areas we featured in our last article, and the San Francisco neighbourhood.

Without a doubt, the Calle Colón is the shopping epicentre of the city, especially in terms major fashion Brands, department or flagship stores, including consumer giants such as Apple. It is a large commercial street that runs from the city centre, the Plaza de Porta de la Mar, to the far end, where the iconic Plaza de Toros and the celebrated Estación del Norte train station, a modernist building designed by architect Demetrio Ribes, are situated.

Different streets that divide those perpendicular to Colón, such as the Calle Correos, where a good number of offices, including notary’s, lawyer’s and economist’s are situated, lead to the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, a popular open space, where the thunderous mascletas are launched during Las Fallas and where the outstanding main building of the city council is situated. It is the first of three squares that play an important role in the social life and the tourism of the city, as you can easily reach other emblematic points of the Valencia from there. Further along you get to the  Plaza de la Reina and the Plaza de la Virgen, nestled in Valencia’s  old town.  It is a distinguished address of the city, owing to its dimension and its legacy, which has been preserved with many of its streets and buildings.

A short walk leads us to the towers of Santa Catalina and Miguelete, the Cathedral of Valencia, the Bascilica of Our Lady of the Forsaken (patron saint of the city), Lonja de la Seda, which has been declared a UNESCO world heritage site and to finally take a break  just in front of one of the many kiosks of the Mercado Central. From there we can depart on a stroll around the Carmen neighbourhood, which is very popular, both among Valencians and visitors, thanks to its great offer of restaurants and bars. Some of its streets, including Calle de Quart and  Calle Caballeros, can be enjoyed once and again, without having to be worried about lost time, while looking at its historic palaces and stately homes.

The city of Valencia lives in a permanent duality between its historic past and its location at the sea, as we mustn’t forget that it is a Mediterranean city after all. Valencia’s beaches are situated not far from the city centre and are well connected with bus or tram. These city beaches of Valencia (Cabanyal beach, la Malvarossa and Las Arenas) are of excellent quality, referring to their obtained blue flag standard, as well as the Q stamp for touristic quality. They are located right next to the neighbourhoods Cabanyal and Canyamelar, old fishing neighbourhoods, which have preserved their characteristics connecting the city until today. There you can still find old villas, which have preserved all their charm and are located just a few metres from the sea. These city beaches, where you can enjoy fantastic restaurants, border the Patacona beach in the north, another beach, which is very popular among Valencians, although it is part of the neighbouring municipality Alboraya, where one of Valencia’s most popular drinks is from, the horchata.
