Valencia, a city open to the sea

Given that it is a city bathed by the waters of the Mediterranean sea, one of the great attractions of Valencia is the location of its urban beaches, such as El Cabanyal and La Malvarrosa. Historically, thanks to the short distance separating theses beaches from the city centre, they were a popular summer destination for the city’s high classes, who enjoyed the leisure activities on offer in places such as the pools in Las Arenas. Today, this has not changed, as the area is excellently connected to the old town, only a 20-minute bus or tram ride away, and this makes it even more attractive.

One of the best examples of historic construction stemming from the Valencian bourgeoisie is the Museum/House of the writer Vicente Blasco Ibañez. It has been fully restored by the Valencian City Council and, today, holds a large part of the renowned Valencian writer’s legacy. Together with this building, it is possible to find completely refurbished villas on the Valencian sea front, situated only a few metres from the sea, in which the original construction features have been respected and brought in line with the necessary modern comforts.

The aforementioned villas share space on Valencia’s urban beaches with the evolved, more-recently constructed buildings. Some of these are situated on the neighbouring beach of Patacona, belonging to the municipality of Alboraya, and comprise a variety of properties, ranging from exceptional villas to luxury apartments. They benefit from an excellent location, as they are only a few steps away from some of the most popular beaches in the city, and their terraces offer stunning views of the Mediterranean.

Surrounding the city of Valencia, within a radius of almost 25 kilometres, there are many other developments which are testament to Valencia’s intimate relationship with the Mediterranean Sea. El Saler, Perellonet, Perelló, Mareny Blau and Cullera are towns which have been appreciated by the Valencians themselves for many years. Thanks to the quality of their beaches and their proximity to the capital, these areas have become, over the decades, some of the best summer destinations.
